It was first name ¡§Zhaozhong Stele¡¨ and renamed as Victory stele after Taiwan¡¦s independence from Japan. In 1895, Japan attacked Taiwan and caused thousands of casualties. Memorial steles were built everywhere in Taiwan to commemorate those dead. The stele in the park used to stand somewhere else; only till later was moved next to the tennis court. |
