Dakeng is located in Touke Moutain. Two million years ago, Taiwan  out of the ocean. The rocks of the Hsuehshan Moutains were soon moved and piled up to the foot of the mountain and shallow sea. Then they became today's Mt.Touke stratum. After that, the island had finished rising up and experienced two glacial epochs—the Riss glacial epoch, 400,000-320,000 years ago, and the Wurm glacial epoch, 110,000-10,000 years ago. All of  Dakeng's geological history is recorded for its unique special ecological environment and you read Taiwan's precious treasure.

Mt.Touke, on the border of Taichung City's Beitun District and Xinshe Township, is a low mountain in the middle eastern Taichung Basin. Dakeng, located on the east of Beitun Distric, has the east hill and west low hill landform, including Dakeng River, Jhuoshui River, Cingshui River, Hengkeng River, Jhuyuankeng River and Buzai River, which flow from east to west. The Dakeng stratum consists of Mt.Touke stratum from the east of Liankeng Lane, the Jhuolan stratum runs from Liankeng Lane to the west 300m contour line of Dakeng River and Jinshui stratum from the west Jhuolan stratum. It displays a spectacular landscape because of its stratum, gradient and landform.

Mt.Touke Stratum

The peculiar spectacular of Mt.Touke stratum in Dakeng includes Pebbled rivers, leaning hills, eroded valleys, steep cliffs, landslides, slower hill creeps, driftwood fossils etc. Mt.Touke is the highest peak in Taichung City about 859 meters. "Pa Wu which means people can't hike for a long time. Its Walking Trail No.5 is famous for its shape which is similar to a helmet, and is a good place to look at the view and ponder the meaning of life.

Jhuolan Stratum

Jhuolan stratum is based on grey sandstone and shale, whose structure is loose. They slant each other. Because of the multiple ways of erosion, Jhuolan stratum appears to look like a landform with a hogback and single mountain layers. Water is more abundant here. The Dakeng River, Cingshui River, Jhuoshui River, and cross-creeks all provide the opportunities for people to play in the water at their leisure. The bigger terraces have become big amusement parks--Encore Garden, Kadoli Amusement Park, Venice Amusement Park, Tung Shan Paradise and Tiansing Amusement Park. They provide a fun place for Taichung citizens and visitors to central Taiwan.

Jinshui Stratum

Jinshui stratum is based on sandy shale, which is mixed with argillaceous sandstone. It is on the lower Jinshui stratum. Here are Walking Trails No.6-8, 6592 meters, and Wind Moving Rock Park. The formation of Wind Moving Rocks, Rock Pillar, is because the joints of landslide were eroded by rain. Citizens can have a rest there.

We saw the gravels' landscape in Dakeng Scenic Area.

We saw the phenomena of the landslide after the earthquake of  September 21st.

We saw the ecological evolution after the disaster.

All of these are major characteristics of Dakeng's landform and ecology.
