    Education brings vitality to lives and it is like
that spring makes lives flourishing and vital everywhere.

The achievement of being a good teacher is to persist in
what is good and try our best without giving up.

　　When some students are impolite to us, we will think that we are challenged and disrespected. At this situation, we have to forgive those children as teachers and elders. It is great to put forgiveness into effect and also good to be students' example.  

　　What students need is instruction not reproach. You should tell him what is right and what is wrong instead of blaming their bad.

    Trees or flowers blossom in the different season; children have their own seasons too.

Take a ride on Time machine—go back to the history of Yu Jen

　　Forty years ago, the first Catholic elementary school was founded—Yu Jen Catholic Elementary School . I graduated in the year and was full of the ideal of education. With the recommendation of my teacher, it's my pleasure to join Yu Jen for building the school.

 　　During the forty years, we insist in the spirit of Yu Jen which emphasizes the balanced development in six educations. With the support of churches and parents association and with the guidance of our principals and with the new faculty's and staff's involvement, Yu Jen keeps progress and has creativity in teaching. Therefore, our students' presentation in moral, intellectual, physical, social, aesthetic and sacred aspects is always excellent not only in Taichung but also in the world.

Relationship of teachers and students

　　I have served in Yu Jen for over 30 years and the relationship of students and teachers is like a thread which is never broken permanently. Mr. Chih-Ching Liao was my student and now he is the director of school affairs in this academic year. He graduated from  Yu Jen Elementary School thirty years ago and was my student. The feeling of the relationship is special. When he was an elementary school student, he was smart and excellent in Math. He also got along well with classmates. Now his specialty is also Math and his teaching is full of passion.

　　Mr. Ting-Kai Huang was also my student thirty years ago. Now he is the father of one of my students. His daughter, Yu-Hsuan Huang, is an outstanding student. Her learning attitude is similar to her father: study hard, representation of six aspects of education is balanced, and they both are the members of the school musical group.

　　I can find the common characteristics from Mr. Chih-Ching Liao, Mr. Ting-Kai Huang, and Yu-Hsuan Huang. They are all hard-working students and sit in front of the class. Chih-Ching and Ting-Kai received many prizes in Yu Jen and they are both success in their job. Of course, Yu-Hsuan who received ‘The glory of Yu Jen Award’ must be successful in the future.

　　As for our relationship, we are three-generation relationship.

My Supporter

　　People said, ‘Even if someone is your teacher for only a day, you should regard him like your father for the rest of your life.’ The proverb is suitable to describe the relationship of Mr. Hsiao and me. I was one of Mr. Hsiao’s students and now I teach in the same school with Mr. Hsiao. Although the relationship is different from before, I always regard Mr. Hsiao as a solid mountain, a supporter. If I have any problem, I will ask for his opinion. He always can resolve my problems and teach me a lot.

　　Especially when I started to teach fifth grade and sixth grade students and was nervous, Mr. Hsiao who was the director of school affairs in that semester year always explain in detail to let me be able to follow his steps to make progress. Sometimes when there are many things waited for me to deal with, I am used to ask for Mr. Hsiao's help. Then I found that Mr. Hsiao is good at dealing with things and takes it easy to complete all the things. His philosophy is that if the thing can be finish now, you have to complete it immediately; if the thing can be finished today, you have to complete it today. This is the philosophy I need to learn.

　　Although I have taught in Yu Jen for ten years, Mr. Hsiao has a lot of precious experience that I need to discover and learn. I also hope that Mr. Hsiao can always be my supporter forever and ever. Finally, I want to say ‘Thank you, Mr. Hsiao.’

Arts and Humanity in Yu Jen

　　Since Yu Jen established, the school started to advocate arts education including music, art, dance, calligraphy, etc. Students and teachers all immerse in the abundant arts and humanity atmosphere. Especially at that time under the guidance of Chinese Orchestra teacher Yue Li Lin, Chorus teacher Shu Hua Hsieh, Li Sha Hsu, Dance teacher Shu Miau Tsai, Art teacher Shao Lung Ni, Feng Tsz Chang, our arts education not only dominated Taichung city but also became famous all over Taiwan. In addition, our principal Sister Li Lan Shih led a hundred of teachers and students to Korea and Japan on invitation. This was a very successful national diplomacy at that time because our society was closed society.

　　At present, Yu Jen Catholic Elementary School has developed as an omnibearing school. Our school owns solid faculty and outstanding representations not only in arts education but also in English, computer, language, Nature and Science, physical education. The school has expended from a small family of around five hundred people to a big family of around two thousands people, and students learn knowledge in different cultures and many of students gain good reputation in international competitions.

　　When I look back into the place where I have worked for over thirty years, I feel so touched. I grew up strongly and became mature here and working here everyday is my interest. I am so lucky and blessed.

Yu Jen is a little world

　　I always encounter with my students in unexpected places. Once I was eating in a cafeteria of  National Palace Museum and someone called me, ‘Teacher, how come you are here?’ and I tried to be serious and asked her, ‘It's a good question, and how about you are here?’ Some students are not so active and didn't say hi because they thought that I already forget them because they graduated several years ago. At this time, I tried my best to recall their names and said hi to them passionately. They made a joke and said, ‘Teacher, I graduated long time ago, I cannot believe that you still remember me.’ And I said, ‘You are lucky that you didn’t owe me money, or I won't forget you until 50 years later.’ They seemed so shocked and the situation impressed me a lot.

　　So I reminded my husband that the world is small and it is possible to encounter with my students. Therefore, if you meet my students, you can take care of them. Then he laughed at me that don't worry, most of your students live in  Taichung . Several days later, I met three of my students in three different places which are not in  Taichung .

Be persistent and try my best to accomplish everything myself

　　I remember that when I studied in  Yu Jen Elementary School , my mother, Hsiu-Luan Yang, has taught in the school. She know that I like reading and am interested in math and physics, so she gave me a lot of chances to explore my interests and also supported me a lot.

　　When I studied in UC Berkeley and studied in Ph.D. program in Physics department, I had the opportunity to know and get along with outstanding professors and students from different countries. It is very meaningful to have the chance to discuss with classmates or friends from different countries. The ways that everyone deals with things are different. I can understand the differences among different countries. We need to be glad that compared to other countries, our educational environment is good.

　　Among those students from different countries, I understand that what accounts is the persistence and study hard. ‘Once we chose to study here, we have to try our best to work on it. If we don't try our best, it will be better to go to work.’ This quote gave me a lot of inspiration. Moreover, most of students in our school not only work on their homework but also concern many things, including national affairs and class activity. They always involve in school affairs a lot and can provide helpful opinions. In addition, they are independent and responsible for everything and will try their best to overcome difficulty. In conclusion, my classmates and friends in UC Berkley are excellent not only in intellectual aspect but also moral, physical, social, aesthetic and sacred aspects. These six aspects in education are emphasized by Yu Jen as well.

　　This year is Yu Jen 40^th Anniversary and I am forty years old as well. The purpose and function of Education in Yu Jen Elementary develop very well. Thanks to Mr. Chang-Chin Hsiao's invitation (he was my teacher and now is my daughter’s teacher), I am going to write an article about the history of Yu Jen.

　　While seeing my daughter in the uniform of Yu Jen, I recall that when I was a student in Yu Jen, I was shy and not good at expressing things. My personality now is the same as before. Yu-Hsuan is so lucky that teachers foster her potentials and change her a lot. She becomes a confident, responsible, and enthusiastic in learning student. Therefore, we can understand that besides general education, Yu Jen also emphasizes on individual education based on individual differences. If students attend  Yu Jen Elementary School and their parents can cooperate with teachers, they will be successful in the future.

　　Education is an important career which takes time to nurture individuals, so we should foster our children since they are elementary school students. The teaching content reflects education as well, so school has to focus on both Mathematics and Humanity education. Besides knowledge education, we should foster elementary students to protect life, respect others, and develop good habits and attitudes.

Unforgettable life in the elementary school

　　We all graduated from Yu Jen in different years. Time flies, my child attends Yu Jen which was our elementary school. When I saw the beautiful building and met my teachers, I am so touched and happy to celebrate Yu Jen 40^th Anniversary. The unforgettable life in Yu Jen comes to my mind.

　　We have to thank our parents who chose the best school— Yu Jen Elementary School for us although we were not rich at that time. Although some people thought that it doesn't matter which elementary school their children attend, in fact, Yu Jen emphasizes on not only six aspects in education but also students' personality. Knowledge can be accumulated soon but it takes time to foster deposition and manner. Because of Sisters' and teachers' teaching, students can understand teachers' intention and become good students. In addition, Yu Jen is the leader of education because it has life education course in which students need to learn to respect others and cherish life and what they have. For students in this generation, it is important to learn and experience.
