Characteristics

Banyan is one of the most popular of indoor plants. Its light to dark gray trunk thickens well and aerial roots develop from the trunk and branches in humid shady environments. Ovate-shaped leaves are glossy and alternate. Blooms in spring. Latex is cream color. Even on barrens, the tree can grow well. With the strong aerial roots, the tree can grip rocks. It's because the tree roots can secrete acid liquid to dissolve limestone and make infertile soil useful.

Introduction

It usually distributes in the central and south parts of  China and Japan. It's also a common plant seen in broad-leaved forest up on this island. The  balk is brown in color and easily peeled off. It's also named, "Monkeys don't climb" because of its sleek stalk. Its appearance resembles to crape myrtle. However, unlike the purple flowers  of crape myrtle, its flowers are white and its fruits smaller. This kind of plant can be planted on barrens or drought areas. When planted along sides of roads, they can prevent mudslide.
