Statue of Duke Houteng Xinping

Statue of National Father, Sun, Zhong Shang

Memorial statue was built in 1911 to commemorate Duke Houteng Xinping. He assisted the forth Taiwan governor-general to complete the western line of Taiwan railway. Therefore, his statue was set in the park. It was removed after the war.

After Taiwan’s independence from Japan, Taichung city council and the government were eradicating Japan’s effects. In 1947, it was decided that the statue of duke should be removed and National Father’s statue replaced of it instead. The statue of National Father is built to commemorate Mr. Sun Zhong Shang who lead people to overthrow Ching Dynasty and contribute to the birth of Taiwan.
